304/304L is widely used for parts which require machining, welding, grinding, and polishing with good corrosion resistance. Such parts have diverse applications including paper and chemical industries, cryogenic services, dairy, beverage, and other food industries, and acetic, nitric, and citric acids, organic and inorganic chemicals, dyestuffs, crude and refined oils. Additionally, its lack of magnetism makes it a highly desirable material for instruments and its architectural trim applications.
The 304/304L grade has good drawing, forming, and stamping properties, making it suitable for applications which require corrosion resistance but not elevated temperatures. It is particularly useful for welding purposes.
